Frequently Asked Questions
Western Digital latest hard drive driver release. I have Windows 10. About Driver Wizard. Your Western Digital hard drive relies on software drivers to operate. Th einstructions in the PDF manual advise me to run the WD Apps Set up file to. Mackhm 2015-10-15 01:18:34 UTC #1. (running 64 bit Windows 7), and my PC recognizes the device as 'Drive F). None of them listed as WD Aps Setup.

WD App is an application for Windows 10 and Windows 8 that reads media from a WD drive and categorizes it into Photos, Music and Videos for easy access. The app is available through the App Store in Windows 8 and automatically installs when a compatible WD drive is plugged into a Windows 8 computer.
Installing
Note: | The steps below are used to install WD App in a Windows 10 or Windows 8 system manually. Alternatively, the app can be installed by connecting a WD hard drive to the system. |

In order to install WD App in a Windows 10 or 8 system, please select an Operating System (OS) from the table below to display instructions for your specific OS.
Windows 10
- Click on the Search button and while on the search, type store and select it.
- While on the Store, type WD on the search bar. From the resulting list, select the WD app.
- The WD app Overview, Details and Reviews will open up, providing information about the application. Click on Free or Install to proceed.
- Microsoft account credentials may be requested in order to proceed with the app installation. Choose an account and enter a valid username and password, then click on Save.
- Click on Free or Install once again to download and install the app. Once complete, click on theOpen button to proceed to the End User License Agreement.
- Once installed, running WD app will prompt a Welcome screen. Click on Continue to accept the app privacy policy, terms and conditions. Now the application can be used.
Windows 8
- Go to the Start Screen (formerly known as Metro Start Screen).
- While on the Start Screen, type wd and select the option for Store, so the search scans the Windows app store instead of apps or files in the local system. From the resulting list, select the WD app.
- The WD App Overview, Details and Reviews will open up, providing information about the application. Click on Install to proceed.
- Microsoft account credentials may be requested in order to proceed with the app installation. Enter a valid username and password, then click on Save.
- The application will install itself, and a notification will appear on the top left corner of the screen when the installation is completed. The WD App's icon will now appear in the Start Screen.
- Once installed, running WD App will prompt a Welcome! screen. Click on Continue to accept the app privacy policy, terms and conditions. Now the application can be used.

WD Drive Utilities allows the user to register the drive, set the sleep timer, run diagnostics and perform a Drive Erase.

Getting Started with the WD Security for Windows:
Important:The WD Security software uses the set password to electronically lock and unlock the drive. If the password is forgotten, no new data will be writable on it, and data already in the drive will not be accessible. THE DRIVE WILL HAVE TO BE ERASED BEFORE IT CAN BE USED AGAIN. |
About the WD Security Software
The WD Security™ software implements password protection and the 256-bit hardware data encryption capabilities of the supported WD hard drive. Use the WD Security software to:- Create a password to keep others from accessing the files on the drive
- Change the password
- Remove password protection
- Unlock the drive on any computer -- whether the WD Security software is installed there or not
Operating System Compatibility
The WD Security software is compatible with the following Windows operating systems:- Windows 10
- Windows 8.1
- Windows 8
- Windows 7
- Windows Vista
Note: | The WD Security software does not support Other manufacturers hard drives or WD hard drives that were not originally configured for the WD Security software. Compatibility can vary, depending on hardware configuration and operating system. For the best performance and reliability, always install the latest Windows updates. Go to the Control Panel and select Windows Update. |
Follow the steps outlined below to install WD Security for Windows:
- Click this link to download WD Security for Windows
- Click DOWNLOAD
- Select Save. Note: Save options may be different depending on the browser used
- Click Open folder
- Right-click on the WDSecuritySetup.zip file
- Select Extract All...
- Accept the default location and click Extract
- Double-click the WDSecuritySetup application to initiate the installation
- Read the EULA (End User License Agreement) and check the box to agree with the EULA to enable the Install button
- Click Install
- Click
Finish when the installation is complete
The WD Security installer will place an icon on the desktop.
The WD Security application can also be accessed from the start menu; please follow the steps below to open the software from the Program Files List.
- Start and select All Programs
- Select the folder labeled Western Digital
- Click on WD Apps folder.
- Open WD Security application.

Getting Started with the WD Drive Utilities for Windows:
Critical:Erasing the drive permanently deletes all of the data on the drive. Always make sure that the data on the drive is no longer needed before erasing it. |

- Click the Show Downloads shortcut icon, located in the upper right corner of the browser, to open the Downloads folder. The view may be different, depending on the browser used
- Double-click the WD_Security_Installer_Mac.dmg file
- Double-click the WD Security Installer
- Click Open to accept running a file downloaded from the Internet
- Check the box indicating having read and accept the End User License Agreement (EULA)
- Click Install to begin the installation
- Enter an administrative user password for the computer and click OK
- Click Finish when the installation is complete
The WD Security software has been installed and an icon to launch the program will be found in the Applications folder. Please follow the steps below to open the software using Finder
- Open Finder and select Aplications on the left panel
- Locate and double click on the WD Security icon to open
